Planning for emergencies

“What would happen to the person I look after if I am unwell, have an accident or emergency?”

This thought is often at the back of carers’ minds and ignoring it can even make it more of a worry.

An Emergency Plan is a safe way to hold essential information about the person you care for, what their care needs are and who needs to be informed if something goes wrong.

You can contact the Carers' Centre on 0800 0388 885 and an Emergency Plan will be sent to you in the post to complete, or you can download one at the link below to print out at home.

Completing your Emergency Plan
Once completed, please send your Emergency Plan to FREEPOST, BANES CARERS' CENTRE – no stamp is needed.

How does it work?
Once returned to the Carers’ Centre, your Emergency Plan will be kept on our secure database and accessed by Virgin Care Emergency Duty Team if needed.
Emergency Card
An Emergency Card will be sent to you once your Plan is received. It's the size of a credit card for you to keep in a safe place like your purse or wallet. If something happens to you, the Card will alert that you are a carer and your Emergency Plan can be accessed.

Updating your Emergency Plan
Make sure you keep your Emergency Plan up to date and if you need to change anything, just let us know. The Carers’ Centre will contact you in 12 months to see if anything has changed.

Extra help if you need it
If you would like help completing your Emergency Plan or to speak to someone at the Carers’ Centre about it, you can contact us on 0800 0388 885.
