Frequently asked questions

Here are some answers to common queries about The Carers' Centre.

Our remit is to work across Bath and North East Somerset, so if you are an unpaid carer who lives in the area, or you look after a family member or friend who lives here, we're here for you. If you do not meet this criteria you can still ring our support line and we'll do our best to find your local support option for you.

We support both young people and adults who are caring for someone. Young people can access our service from the age of 5. There is no upper limit on the age you can be to get support from us.

If you are an adult, you simply need to fill in our joining form. As soon as this is processed (approximately 3 days, but often sooner) you can access any of the services we offer. If you need urgent help more quickly than this you can always ring our support line who will be happy to help.

If you are a young person, an adult needs to fill in a joining form for you. This will then be passed to the young carers team who will review all the information provided to ensure we provide the best level of support for you. At any point, you or an adult supporting you, can ring the support line who will be happy to help.

No! Everything we offer is free of charge. We are here to make the lives of carers that little bit easier and we don't want cost to be a barrier. On some of our adult activities we may as for a voluntary donation to help with the cost, but this is not compulsory.

As a small local charity, we are funded through a variety of sources. Some of our funding comes from Bath and North East Somerset Council, for delivering services for carers. We also receive funding from a range of grant-giving foundations such as The National Lottery, Quartet Community Foundation and the People's Postcode Trust. Finally, we are often supported through the generosity of the local public who donate and raise funds for the vital work that we do.

If you are caring for someone, by joining the Carers' Centre you will be offered the option to receive our newsletters either by post or email. We send out email updates monthly and our postal magazine Caretime comes out quarterly.

Firstly, thank you for recognising the role of the person you know. Caring for someone can be challenging and having this recognised and supported by those around you makes it that little bit easier.

If you are supporting this unpaid carer or the person the care for, you can make a referral to our services, with their permission, and we'll get in touch to discuss how we can help.

If you are a friend or family member wanting to help, you can direct them to this website to join us directly. You may also want to visit our Friends and Family page to find advice for you on how best to help people who care.
