New Patron for Carers' Centre

Patron Edward Bayntun-Coward with Sonia Hutchison, Chief Executive of the Carers’ Centre.

Bath-based philanthropist Edward Bayntun-Coward is the new Patron of the Carers’ Centre Bath and North East Somerset. Edward brings his life-long experience of working with local charities such as The Holburne Museum and The Bath Preservation Trust as well as national charities like The Samaritans to the role.

“I volunteered for 10 years for the Samaritans in London and learnt a lot about how hard life can be for carers,” explained Edward. “I want to help raise the profile of the valuable work of the Carers’ Centre. I have a disabled nephew and have seen first-hand how caring for another person changes everything."

Edward went to Oxford University with David Cameron and has his own views on The Big Society. “Everyone should try to do something other than just make money. I'm lucky to have the life that I live, and every week I do my best to devote time and resources to various good causes.”

Edward is the owner of George Bayntun, one of the world’s most famous bookshops, established by his great-grandfather in Bath in 1894.
