Charity Auction Raises £10,000 for Carers

Bidders and guests at the packed auction at Kingswood School in Bath.

A grand auction in Bath has brought in a massive £10,000 cash boost for two deserving local charities. Proceeds from the event will be split between the Peggy Dodd Centre, a day centre for people with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, and the Carers’ Centre Bath and North East Somerset.

Over 100 generous bidders competed for items and experiences donated by supporters and businesses from the area, with a week in a French gite selling for £480.00, and tickets to a jazz supper scooped up for £250.00.

Rosie Cole, whose husband, Den, has Alzheimer’s and is cared for at Peggy Dodd each day, is a trustee for both charities, and the driving force behind the auction.

“We were thrilled with the turn out on the night; our big-hearted bidders were all prepared to pay handsomely for our donated lots. A day’s gardening provided by the Young Carers group went for a staggering £200.00; we sold tea for two at the Ritz in London, a trip in a hot air balloon, a ride in a racing car, as well as simple items like a few hours’ cleaning, or a restyle at the hairdressers. The night was great fun, and everyone went home with a smile on their face.

“I wanted to raise much needed funds for these two marvellous causes who do so much to help carers like me, I simply couldn’t have any quality if life at all without their support,” added Rosie.

The Carers’ Centre Bath and North East Somerset offers help, support and breaks away from caring for those who look after a friend or family member who is frail, has a physical or mental illness, disability or problem with drugs or alcohol.
